AmeriCU Credit Union announces the promotion of Daniel Belfield to Vice President General Counsel

Vice President General Counsel

ROME, NY – AUGUST 09, 2024: AmeriCU Credit Union is honored to announce the promotion of Daniel Belfield to Vice President General Counsel. With extensive experience in both private practice and corporate settings he brings invaluable expertise to his new role.

The first attorney to serve as in-house counsel to AmeriCU, Attorney Belfield has spent the past few years building a legal department from the ground-up. This has included establishing a legal operations group to handle the credit union’s day-to-day legal activities, as well as streamlining vendor management and document control, and otherwise advising the credit union on a wide array of legal, compliance, and risk management issues.

Attorney Belfield has also worked to comprehensively overhaul the credit union’s compliance department. Through this work, the department now leverages digital compliance tools to more-efficiently complete compliance reviews and monitoring tasks. Attorney Belfield and his team maintain effective identification of regulatory and compliance risks. This will become increasingly important as AmeriCU continues to expand their geographic footprint and digital offerings.

“Attorney Belfield’s promotion to Vice President General Counsel is a testament to his unwavering dedication, exceptional expertise, and leadership within our organization,” stated Mark Livesey, Chief Risk Officer of AmeriCU Credit Union. “His profound understanding of risk management and legal processes has been instrumental to our success. We are confident that in his new role, Attorney Belfield will continue to support our strategic initiatives and contribute to the organization’s long-term success.”

In addition to his professional achievements, Attorney Belfield was recently appointed to the NYCUA Government Affairs Committee, which advises the NYCUA on legislative issues at the state and federal level, as well as emerging compliance trends. He supports local causes, including the Kelberman Center, St. Francis House, vital community programs such as soup kitchens and food banks, and medical work abroad.

AmeriCU Credit Union is a member owned not-for-profit financial institution with more than 400 employees and total assets of $2.7 billion. AmeriCU has 20 financial centers which serve more than 164,000 members in 24 New York counties and beyond. American Banker has recognized AmeriCU Credit Union as one of the Best Credit Unions to Work For in 2023. In a national survey, AmeriCU placed 19th out of the top 70 credit unions nationwide and placed highest among New York State based credit unions.
